2019- 20 Team Feature Series Part 3
Submitted By Alana Hodgert on Friday, July 3, 2020
Our third 2019-20 Team Feature is our U14 team. Thank you to the bench staff for all of their hard work.
Here is a summary of the season from Coach Brian:

This year I had the privilege of coaching the U14 Exeter- Seaforth Explosion Ringette Team alongside Rebecca Rooseboom. Most of these girls have played together since they were Bunnies however this year they welcomed 3 new players to the team Cloey Weiss, Izzy Willert and Jaden Dietrich. Cloey and Izzy you both showed an eagerness to develop and were great additions to our team. Jaden stepped into our goalie position from hockey and quickly adjusted with quick moves and the ability to stop the ring. We also had our 4 rock-solid defence Layne McGregor, Kate Maloney, Kiera Cooleman, and Rachel Vanbakel who were like a brick wall and difficult to get through. We had 9 forwards with 3 centres and 6 wings. Our centres consisted of Emily Smale, Sydney Dolmage and Jaclyn VanBakel and the wingers were Marcy Towton, Kate Wynja, Emma Alce, Addisyn Brown, Cloey Weiss and Izzy Willert. It took a bit of time to get lines figured out but once we did the girls worked well together. When the girls kept those feet moving and gave it everything they had they were a force to be reckoned with.
The team played in 3 tournaments. The first tournament in Mitchell we got silver. The second tournament was in Waterloo where the team had an exciting come-back. The girls were down 2-0 with 5 minutes to go and rallied back with a 4-2 win and took home the gold! Our final tournament was in Niagara Falls. This tournament had some intense moments on the ice, on the bench and in the stands resulting in another silver for the team.
Special thanks to our bench staff Stephanie Hovious, Julie Towton, and Janet Traquair and manager Andrea McGregor. Despite a sudden interruption to the end of the season and not being able to go to regionals we had a great year and hope to see all the girls back next year.
Thanks for a great season,
Brian Wynja
